The Brain Load Test is a structured 5-question assessment designed to measure your current level of decision fatigue — the mental depletion that builds up as you make more and more choices throughout the day.

Based on Roy Baumeister's research into ego depletion and subsequent decision fatigue studies, the test maps your responses to four fatigue tiers: Low, Moderate, High, and Severe. Each tier comes with specific, actionable recovery strategies tailored to where you are right now.

Why does decision fatigue matter?

Every decision — from what to eat for breakfast to whether to approve a budget — draws from the same finite pool of mental energy. As that pool depletes, decision quality degrades. You start making impulsive choices, delaying important decisions, or defaulting to whatever is easiest. The Brain Load Test helps you catch this before it damages your day.

"The most important decisions of your day deserve to be made with a full tank. This test tells you how much you have left."

How to use your results

If you score in the Low range, you're in great shape — prioritise your most complex decisions now while your mental energy is high. Moderate? Schedule a short break and come back to big choices later. High or Severe means you should delegate or delay any non-urgent decisions and focus on rest and recovery first.
